Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph 26550AU.OO.A002CA.01
This stunning timepiece is a limited edition of only 50 pieces manufactured. It is comprised of a carbon case with a black ceramic bezel and an exhibition back. The “Mega Tapisserie” patterned black dial with index batons features a 30 minute recorder at 3 0’clock, tourbillon at 6 0’clock and small seconds at 9 0’clock. It has a large case diameter of 44m and a 65 hour power reserve. Situated in the confines of the case is the Calibre 2897, which is comprised of a total of 335 parts. Many of the components have been bevelled, polished and hand decorated in order to create a glimmering play of light and dark. This creative design in addition with a precise mechanism that is capable of measuring a fragment of a second would make a truly beautiful addition to any watch collection.
The first Grande Complication models were introduced in 1882. The Royal Oak Offshore was launched in 1993 and quickly became the ultimate sports watch.
This year saw the launch of the Grande Complication Royal Oak Offshore Titane 26571IO.OO.A002CA.01 (pictured below); featuring an exceptional movement combining some of the most impressive mechanical developments ever produced by watchmakers. This titanium and ceramic watch has a 44mm diameter complete with a rubber strap and a 45 hour power reserve. The watch is a limited edition piece of a mere 3 that have been manufactured, with a price tag of around £547,000.
In addition to providing a standard time display, this watch features a split-second complication and a minute repeater mechanism; a remarkable complication which chimes the hours, quarters and minutes on demand. It also includes a perpetual calendar display along with moonphase indication.
The movement is a Calibre 2885, comprised of a whopping 648 parts, where some have been sandblasted to highlight as opposed to more traditional treatments such as bevelling. A skeleton dial and exhibition back reveal the parts composing this exceptional piece. Through the exhibition back in particular you can view the solid gold oscillating weight covered in a black coating.
