Audemars Piguet to sponsor top tournament

One of Italy's leading polo tournaments is being sponsored by Audemars Piguet again, the watchmaker has revealed.

The Audi Polo Gold Cup has received the backing of the company for the second successive year, with its own Audemars Piguet Royal Oak team taking on an Audi side.

It lost the first of a series of three contests between the two, playing on the frozen Misurina lake near Cortina d'Ampezzo, but will hope to win the second tie, due to be held in very different surroundings, on a sandy beach at Forte dei Marmi next month.

Those keen to buy a vintage watch may note Audemars Piguet has a wide range of sporting sponsorship deals, involving games as varied as golf and football.

Audemars Piguet ambassador's include the world's leading footballer Lionel Messi, who was in action again last night (March 8th) as his two goals helped Barcelona to a 3-1 win over Arsenal to progress to the quarter finals of the Champions League 4-3 on aggregate.
