Christmas is rapidly approaching so it’s only fitting that we start to see sneak peeks of the upcoming designs from the hottest Swiss watch houses, starting with Hublot and their new Big Bang Unico Magic Gold.

As part of their new collection to be revealed at Geneva on 19th January, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Gold is described by the watch house as ‘probably the most scratch-resistant gold bezel ever produced.’ The gold material was unveiled 3 years prior by Hublot who created it with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Magic Gold is only created at Hublot’s Nylon manufacture and involves a process wherein 24k gold is injected over porous ceramic base casing in high pressure. It is only able to be cut by diamond-tipped tools as it has a hardness rating of 1,000 Vickers as opposed to the typical 400 Vickers for standard 18k gold or 600 Vickers for most steel.

Hublot are known for their innovation and to go beyond what is expected from a watch. The Big Bang Unico Magic Gold is the most recent to use the special material; it’s arguably most notable model was in BaselWorld 2012 with the launch of the extremely limited edition Big Bang Ferrari – a symbol of the two brands that value Exclusivity, Innovation and Technology.
