Rare Patek Phillipe Sells for $710'500

A few days ago we wrote about an extremely rare and historically significant Patek Philippe that was to be offered at auction by vintage watch specialists Antiquorum. This never before seen piece was made in 1946 and originally retailed by Cartier New York to a wealthy New York businessman. Prior to the discovery of this timepiece, there were only five known references for vintage Patek Philippe minute repeating wristwatches. The Patek Philippe ref. 2419 is the only example that features an attractive concave bezel and an oversized crown and repeater hammer as well as a previously unknown Patek Philippe minute repeating movement.

The real question on everyone’s lips however, was how much would it sell for? Estimates were set at US$300,000 – US$500,000 and the internet was abuzz with speculation ahead of the March 10 auction. Bidding, as expected, was intense for this particular piece and ultimately, the unique minute repeating wristwatch retailed by Cartier sold for an astounding $ 710, 500 to a Chinese bidder.
