Rolex for Cartier

 

For a very short period of time, Rolex watches were available at Cartier on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Some of the watches sold at Cartier featured a "Cartier" stamp right on the dial, a trait we see much more commonly with those Rolex pieces retailed via Tiffany's in New York.  A Tiffany & Co. stamp is rare and will certainly add to the value of a vintage Rolex, but a Cartier stamp is a total game-changer. 

In fact, we've only seen and covered one other Cartier-retailed Rolex watch, a Sea Dweller that sold at auction for $91,000...without any documentation and what looked to be replacement hands.

The Submariner 1680 has perfectly matching hands, dial, and even original bezel insert.  On top of that, it comes with Cartier archive papers confirming this watch was indeed sold at Cartier in 1977.  Cartier-dial Rolexes are often imitated because of the immense value associated with them, so to find one with Cartier archival papers confirming authenticity is a premium that any serious collector is willing to pay for.  On top of the papers, it also comes with a famous Cartier red box.
