This watch is the only limited edition piece Rolex have ever released. It was limited to only 1000 pieces ever being manufactured and sold worldwide, 800 of which were speculated to have been produced in 18k yellow gold and 200 in 18k white gold. During the build-up of the 5100, it is believed that the idea of the first Rolex quartz watch, as well as it being the first with sapphire glass, was rather desirable and all 1000 pieces were pre-sold before production had even commenced.
