Bond Street jewellery raid Met response time scandalous

The manager of a jewellery shop targeted in an attempted smash and grab raid has said the time it took for police to respond was "scandalous".

The raid happened at The Watch Centre on New Bond Street, in central London, at 11:06 GMT on Monday.

Store manager Nino Santi, 56, said the police did not arrive at the scene until 11:34 GMT.

The Metropolitan Police is yet to respond to his comments or confirm to the BBC what time it arrived.

The force confirmed an attempted raid had taken place and nothing had been reported as being taken.

Mr Santi said: "Three motorbikes with six men turned up outside. One sprayed a substance we think was ammonia. Our security guard got injured.

"They had an axe and most alarmingly a gun.

"They attempted to get into our shop but we have a shutter system so thank God they didn't.

"It's scandalous how long it took for the police to arrive, especially when we reported guns being involved," he added.
